Krabi Town part of Muang district and is the provincial capital. It is located around 20km from Ao Nang and 9km from the airport, on the mouth of the river. To get here from Krabi Airport, take a taxi (350 baht) or the airport bus (100 baht per person). If you are arriving too late to take a ferry to the islands (for schedules see this page), this is a good place to stay overnight.
If you book your ferry ticket in advance or at your hotel on arrival, a hotel pick-up will be included, so you will not have to make your own way to the pier – useful as it is around 3km out of town. The ferry pier services the ports of Ko Lanta and Ko Jum during high season only, and Ko Phi Phi year round. It is located at the end of Tharua Rd.
There are several small piers in town itself, along the riverside. Here you will find longtail boat services to Railay and the islands, as well as to the villages across the water at Koh Klang and Klong Prasong. You can also take a tour of the backwaters and the Kanab Nam caves from here.
The town is served by many regional and inter-provincial bus services: all tourist routes from Samui, Phangan, Koh Tao and Phuket will end up here, as well as connections from Had Yai, Trang and Bangkok. There are local buses or “song-thaews” to outlying villages, including Neua Klong and Ao Nang, throughout the day. The journey from Ao Nang to town costs 50 baht one way and takes around 40 minutes. In comparison, a taxi or tuk-tuk for the same journey will cost 500 baht one way (1200 baht return with waiting time) and take 15-20 minutes.
