There are two golf courses in Krabi. The first is the 18-hole Pakasai Country Club, located around 40km south of Krabi Town in Neua Klong district. It is owned by the local electricity board and is rated quite highly by local golfers, who enjoy the challenge of its tricky fairways and fast undulating greens, in slightly hilly terrain.
There is a also a 9-hole, 28 par course in Klong Muang, belonging to the Sofitel Phokeethra Resort, but which is open to outside guests. This is on diverse and challenging terrain, at the foot of the Ngon Nak mountain, and overlooking the beach – the views are nothing short of spectacular. Just outside of Krabi Town, on the way north to Phuket, can be found Krabi’s only driving range, with practice and chipping greens, one of which has a bunker. It’s an all-weather terrain with picturesque views over the karst mountains.
There are several companies who can arrange for you to play (note: we are not one of them). They will usually sell a ‘golf package’, which includes transport to and from the course; equipment hire; green fees; and refreshments. You can also visit independently, by calling the respective clubs – both have English-speaking staff who will arrange hotel pick up and offer various package deals. Serious golfers may however be better off holidaying in Phuket, which offers a far greater choice for enthusiasts, including some championship courses.
