A beach holiday in a destination like Krabi makes for an ideal family getaway. There is a large selection of family accommodation, particularly in Koh Lanta; Ao Nang, Phi Phi and Klong Muang are starting to catch up. In general, children are well-catered for here; they are welcome in all restaurants, and younger ones will be cooed over wherever you go.
If your children are young, look for hotels with family rooms that will allow you to stay all together; teenagers may prefer connecting rooms to have some privacy.
Another option is a serviced apartment or villa. These give you more room to spread out, usually with a private pool; and staff are on hand so you don’t need to do housework on holiday!
When booking the hotel, check if facilities like baby cots and high chairs are available – most places 3 star and above will have them. Most hotels will also offer a shallow children’s area in their main swimming pool, some larger hotels also have playgrounds, children’s clubs and babysitting services.
If you prefer to venture out of the hotel, nature is on your doorstep in Krabi, so there are plenty of outdoor activities to do, including cool stuff for older kids like kayaking and rock-climbing. Another plus is that, unlike most other tourist areas in Thailand, there are no visible red light zones to explain to curious youngsters – Krabi is a very safe and family-friendly destination.
