IF the fiery yet delicate taste of Thai cuisine has got you hooked, you may want to learn some skills that will allow you to reproduce the same wonderful flavours back home. Cookery classes are a relatively recent phenomenon in Krabi and not all are up to standard yet; however, you will certainly get to learn the basics such as the balancing of sweet, hot, sour and salty flavours and some of the methods used to cook - stir-frying, curries, soups and salads.
Most chefs will also teach you about the wide range of ingredients used and be able to suggest substitutes for use in Europe where fresh herbs may be hard to come by (we advise you to stock up at the local market - see above - before you leave and freeze them when you get home). Even if you are not a skilled Thai chef at the end of the course (normally half to one day), it's a fun way to learn with a small group of people - and of course, you get to eat your efforts at the end of the day.

To commemorate the 5th anniversary of the Indian Ocean tsunami that devastated the coast of Krabi on December 26, 2004, The Sriphong Phukaoluan Foundation has produced a DVD to raise funds to sponsor children orphaned in the disaster.

The average Thailand guidebook has only a couple of pages dedicated to Krabi. We've created a whole book about the province, its attractions and where to stay. You'll find everything you need to plan your holiday and comprehensive maps and information for when you are here. Order your copy now!
